Elder Abuse Laws in Florida

September 11, 2023 by April Erhard Leave a Comment

Elder abuse is a serious issue that requires attention and action. In Florida, there are specific laws in place to protect the elderly population from any form of mistreatment or exploitation. One such law is Florida Statute 825.103, which addresses elder abuse and provides legal recourse for victims.

Under Florida Elder Abuse Laws, individuals who engage in acts of elder abuse may be subject to criminal charges, as well as, civil theft charges.

The consequences for those found guilty of civil theft can be severe. In addition to potential criminal penalties, the Florida Civil Theft Law allows for treble damages to be awarded to the victim. Treble damages refer to triple the amount of actual damages suffered by the victim, serving as a deterrent and ensuring that perpetrators face significant financial repercussions.

These laws play a crucial role in safeguarding the rights and well-being of Florida’s elderly population. They provide a legal framework that holds accountable those who exploit vulnerable individuals and serve as a deterrent against future incidents of elder abuse.

It is important for both individuals and organizations to familiarize themselves with these laws and take appropriate measures to prevent elder abuse from occurring. By raising awareness about these issues, we can work towards creating a safer environment for our seniors and ensuring that justice is served when they are mistreated or taken advantage of.
